I am still fleshing this thing out, but here's some info if you're interested in sittin' in with the Sam Bonds Garage Banned. This happens every Tuesday except for the 1st Tuesday, when we have the Brown Stallion Invitational. You can learn about that here. This page is about the Sam Bonds Garage Banned.
A lot of the music we love started with some friends hanging out in a garage, cranking out some 3 chord rock and roll over a few cheap beers. Some folks call it garage rock; some call it proto-punk. Whatever. 3 chords, some beer and some friends, and we're good to go. That's the idea here. We got the garage. We got the friends. Now we're bringing the 3 chord rock and roll. Back to the roots.
We will provide a little "suitcase" drum kit and amps, just bring yer axe and any accessories like pedals/cord/etc. We don't wanna clutter the stage up or deal with load-in/out, so leave yer amps home and just use what we got. Make it work.
This isn't a jam, in the sense that, we're not going to be like "noodle over an A chord for 20 minutes". We're going to play songs, but they're easy songs, 12 bar/basic structures, many of which are pretty well known, if not bordering cheesy. But that's where the fun is.
That said, you should be comfortable with "winging it", ie, being thrown into songs you might not know, but being able to navigate through it. Most of them will use familiar structures, knowing how 8 and 12 bar structures work will help a lot. Know your fretboard. If I say I IV V in A, know where that is. Google can help you with this.
We will bring various folks up in however it makes sense, and try to get everyone equal time.
We will start the night with the core Garage Banned around 8:30ish, playing for about a 1/2 hour, maybe with a special guest to get things moving. After that, we'll kinda divvy up the musicians, get the sets sorted out. We'll do the best we can.
We will have 2 house musicians to fill out on any instrument as needed. Yes, you can bring a friend(s) and request to play together. Encouraged even - but remember, this is a jam for everyone to be involved - not a showcase or an audition.
Garage Banned will be fun and loose, but there are a few guidelines we will employ to help keep things cohesive. Read these; they are good to know. I know this reads a bit more "stiff" than I want it to, we're just looking to have fun here, but sometimes the best way to do that is to have a roadmap laid out that we all follow, so we can get down to the business of mangling some Sonics songs.
